Understanding the variations and sources of CO, C₂H₂, C₂H₆, H₂CO, and HCN columns based on 3 years of new ground-based Fourier transform infrared measurements at Xianghe, China

Abstract. Carbon monoxide (CO), acetylene (C2H2), ethane (C2H6), formaldehyde (H2CO), and hydrogen cyanide (HCN) are important trace gases in the atmosphere. They highly related to biomass burning, fossil fuel combustion, biogenic emissions globally, affecting air quality climate change. However, variations correlations among these species not well known northern China due limited measurements. In June 2018, we installed a new ground-based Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer (Bruker IFS 125HR) recording mid-infrared high spectral resolution solar-absorption spectra at Xianghe (39.75∘ N, 116.96∘ E), China. this study, use latest SFIT4 code, together with advanced priori profiling spectroscopy, retrieve five from FTIR measured between 2018 November 2021. The retrieval strategies, information uncertainties presented discussed. For first time, time series, variations, of analyzed typical polluted site seasonal C2H2 C2H6 total columns show maximum winter–spring minimum autumn, whereas H2CO HCN summer winter. Unlike other four species, measurements that there is almost no variation CO column. correlation coefficients (R) synoptic (C2H2, C2H6, H2CO, HCN) 0.68 0.80, indicating they affected by common sources. Using FLEXPART model backward simulations satellite fire measurements, find CO, C2H2, mainly dominated local anthropogenic emissions, while column observed good tracer identify emissions.
